Sheila Charles LIKE ME OR LOATHE ME
We all have our favourite presenters. Some humble. Some rather grand.
I usually liked all of them, women and men. There was no-one that I couldn’t stand.
But as I’m getting older I’m starting to get annoyed
About some of their sentiments. Am I getting paranoid?
They’re entitled to have an opinion so why should I even care
If their ideas differ from mine? Am I being rather unfair?
Take the other day, for example,
I’m half listening, half getting dressed,
When one of them made a statement
That left me totally unimpressed!
Then the other week,
I said out loud, “What a wind bag.”
Just because the presenter
Preferred a ridiculous flag!
Another time HE got on my nerves
For deriding a loved politician.
I thought they had to be neutral
So now I view him with suspicion.
Later a racist comment
Made me really cross
And I actually changed channels.
Why? HE wouldn’t give a toss!
He’d dared to express a point of view
That I could just not accept.
(I’d thought he was well-educqated
Whereas now I just think he’s inept.)
Now I have this recurring nightmare that one day, I also might do
Something similar myself and cause a hullaballoo.
Especially when I ad lib ‘cos I never know what I’ll say.
And I can’t please everyone all the time. It’s not surprising neither could they!
NOW AFTER MUCH REFLECTION, I JUST HAVE TO THINK ‘TOO BAD’
EITHER LIKE ME OR LOATHE ME< OR I COULD WELL GO BARKING MAD.
