Sheila Charles NAIL IT
I went away on holiday
Last week with my old friend Sue.
She wanted to get her nails done.
She said, “You should get yours done too.”
There was every colour on offer,
An amazing array of flowers,
But how long would it all take?
I didn’t want to waste a few hours.
I could have, if I wanted,
A sentence – Go The All Blacks!
I couldn’t help myself
From making a few wise-cracks.
Another thing – I’d always thought nails
At your finger ends should be round
But SQUARE nails were on offer.
I admit I was spellbound.
(Now my mum had a strong opinion
About nail polish – specially RED.
She always complained it looked common
So I went for dark pink instead.)
When I got back to Dunedin,
Almost the very next day,
I made a cottage pie.
(I’m an expert, by the way!)
I decided to put a liberal amount
Of grated cheese on the pie.
Well, I grated one finger AND my newly done nail.
I let out an audible cry.
THAT’S MY MUM SHOWING HER DISAPPROVAL>
I WON’T EVER DO IT AGAIN.
What annoyed me most of all
Was twenty-five dollars down the drain!
