PARENTS

Sheila Charles PARENTS

When you are young, you love your parents.
When you’re teenagers, you change your mind.
Especially when you get told off,
Then friend’S parents seem more kind.

Maybe your friend got packet money
Whilst you yourself did not
And you came to the conclusion
That your parents weren’t so hot!

At Christmas time, my pal, down the road
Always hung up a pillow case.
My sister and I hung up a sock.
I wished I’d lived at HER place!

My dad explained, “There’s ONE of her
And there are TWO of you.”
But why couldn’t Father Christmas be fair
As surely that was something HE knew?

I often wore my sister’s clothes
Whereas my friend just wore her own.
I used to think ‘unlucky Sheila.’
And I also used to think ‘lucky Joan.’

Later, when you’re children of your own,
The boots on the other foot.
your kids want to live with their best friend’s mum,
Accusing you of being in a rut!

When my kids met my sister,
One of them fancied HER.
But then one of my sister’s kids
Whispered I was the one they’d prefer!

The other day, my granddaughter said,
“Granma, you know my friend Pat?
Well, her gran’s taking her to Disneyland for Christmas.”
HOW AM I EXPECTED TO COMPLETE WITH THAT?
