THE FLAG

Sheila Charles THE FLAG

I never cease to be amazed at people’s differing points of view
About anything and everything. How can all of them be true?

Take the New Zealand flag, for example.
Should we change it or what?
Twenty percent think yes, whilst sixty percent think not.
Four flags were finally selected
But none of them were all that hot.
Yet one, that wasn’t even chosen seems to have hit the spot!

And that is where the trouble lies.
Hundreds of ideas were sent in,
But only one could make the final,
So for most folk it is a NO WIN.
(And if you tried to draw one yourself,
Would YOU know where to begin?)

Just think of all those quizzers
Who have learned each and every flag,
They don’t want to have to re-learn stuff.
That would be a real drag.
And everyone else would be obliged to update
So that’s another snag!

I bet you’ve not thought of this either,
It could start a world wide trend.
EVERY country might follow suit
Driving millions round the bend,
The flag makes being the only ones
To benefit in the end!

“How about,” said a friend, “the guy who wanted the change,
Buying an island of his own.
He could choose his flag, constitution, currency
And a title and yes A THRONE!”
