YUMMY BISCUITS

Sheila Charles YUMMY BISCUITS

A woman enjoying a box of biscuits
A woman is munching a whole box of biscuits

I received a box of biscuits
From a dear friend who lives in Japan.
It was accompanied by a hand-made card
And the obligatory fan!

I’ve never had biscuits like them before.
The flavour of each one was trapped
In a little tinfoil envelope.
Each one thus individually wrapped.

I was reluctant to share them
As there weren’t all that many
And because they were so delicious
I did not want to give away ANY!

But how can you tell your friends
How great these biscuits taste if
You won’t even let them try one.
you can’t really just say, “have a sniff.”

Well, you could, but there is no smell.
They have just an incredible taste.
Anyway, suppose the friend didn’t like them?
Well then that would be such a waste!

If I ate them all myself though
I know how guilty I’d feel
And I would appear to be really selfish
So that wouldn’t be ideal.
Then I had a sudden brainwave –
When my friend next came round for a meal,

I’d say, “I’ve been sent these yummy biscuits
But you’re only getting a tiny bite.”
The question is though, would my friend
Also think it was sheer delight?

How would I cope if she said,
“Sheila, what are you raving about?
To me it tastes quite mediocre.”
I was there and then filled with doubt
SO I ate ALL of them myself
And my friend got a big, fat, NOWT!
