Sheila Charles A PRESENT
A PRESENT
These days I don’t get presents.
Friends and family are all agreed
That at my time of life,
I have everything I need.
However this all changed
Just the other day.
A new friend showed up with a present.
It WAS my birthday, by the way.
Or should I say, it HAD been my birthday
Almost a month before
So this was a belated present.
I remonstrated, ‘Are you sure?’
It came in a little jute basket.
I lifted it out carefully and
I had no idea what it was.
You may find that hard to understand.
But it obviously showed
By the expression on my face.
I admitted, ‘I don’t know what it is.’
She said, ‘Oh, you are a hard case!’
It was a lavender scented soother bag
With silicone gel beads, yes!
That did not mean anything either
I have shamefacedly to confess!
My friend explained it to me.
I thanked her profusely, so
As soon as I feel like being soothed,
I’m going to ‘give it a go.’
She also gave me a bunch of flowers.
Thank goodness I knew what THOSE were!
Not knowing what a second present was
Would most certainly have caused a stir!
She also gave me a birthday card
And some money! How lovely was that!
She wrote such heart-warming words inside.
How kind. Thank you my new friend Pat.
